xG Tracker: Step-by-Step Performance Analysis

The Expected Goals (xG) Tracker tool helps you compare a football team’s actual performance against their expected performance. This comparison reveals if a team is overperforming or underperforming based on the quality of chances created and conceded.

  • xG (Expected Goals): Measures the quality of goalscoring chances a team creates.
  • xGA (Expected Goals Against): Measures the quality of chances a team concedes.

2. Enter Team and Match Data

Follow these steps to input the required match statistics into the tool:

  1. Name the Teams: Enter the Home Team name and the Away Team name in the first two input fields. This customizes the result labels.
  2. Input Home Team Statistics:
    • Enter the Home Team’s Actual Goals Scored (Total goals they scored).
    • Enter the Home Team’s Expected Goals (xG) (The expected total of goals for them).
    • Enter the Home Team’s Goals Conceded (Total goals they conceded).
    • Enter the Home Team’s Expected Goals Against (xGA) (The expected total of goals against them).
  3. Input Away Team Statistics: Repeat the process for the Away Team using the corresponding four input fields (Actual Goals, xG, Conceded, xGA).
  4. Analyze Performance: Click the Analyze xG Performance button at the bottom of the input card to view the results.

3. Interpret the Results (xG Analysis)

    • A negative difference means the team is Underperforming. They score less than the quality of their chances suggests (Poor finishing).

    • A negative difference means the team is Excellent. They concede fewer goals than the quality of chances faced suggests (Strong Goalkeeping/Defense).
    • A positive difference means the team is Weak. They concede more goals than the quality of chances faced suggests (Weak Goalkeeping/Defense).
  • Overall xG Rating: This rating provides a simple, consolidated score (from 1 to 5 stars) that combines the attack and defense differences for a quick summary of the team’s underlying strength.
