Your 3-Step Guide to Currency Conversion
Step 1: Input Your Cash Flow
The first step is telling the tool how much money you want to check.
- Enter the Amount: Look for the Amount field at the top. Type in the number you wish to convert. Start with 1 if you only need the current rate (like checking what 1 USD equals).
- Use the Decimal: You can enter whole numbers or amounts with decimals, such as $45.50 or ₦1000.75. The calculator handles the precision.
Step 2: Select Your Currencies (The Source and Target)
This step defines your exchange direction. You need to identify what you have and what you want to receive.
- Select “From” Currency: Click on the currency card next to the label From. This opens a drop-down list. Choose the currency you are spending or starting with. Example: If you are converting Naira to Dollars, select NGN here.
- Select “To” Currency: Click the currency card next to the label To. Choose the final currency you want to receive. Example: Select USD here if you are sending money to America.
- Use the Swap Button: Notice the big, rotating blue button (⇅) in the middle. This instantly flips your selections. If you switch from Naira to Dollars, one click makes it Dollars to Naira. This is super handy if you want to check both directions.
Note: Selecting currencies is like choosing the departure and arrival airports on a flight app. Both must be correct for the journey to make sense.
Step 3: View the Breakdown and Result
The calculation runs automatically after you select your currencies and enter an amount.
- Check the Total: The Convert Now button triggers the final result. The large, bold figure under Converted Amount shows exactly how much money you get.
- Review the Rate: Check the smaller text below, which shows the Exchange Rate used. This explains the ratio, such as “1 USD = ₦1500.00 NGN.” This detail confirms the exact conversion factor.
- See the Breakdown: Look at the Conversion Breakdown table for a summary: the original amount, the rate used, and the final total.
Tip: The six decimal places you see on the rate display are a feature, not a bug. They ensure high accuracy for large transfers, so you know you are not losing small kobo amounts due to rounding.
