Stamp Duty Calculator: Know Your Tax in 3 Steps

This tool finds the exact Stamp Duty amount for your transaction based on Nigerian tax law. It even tells you if you are exempt.

Step 1: Select Your Document Type

Click on the button that describes your transaction. The calculator automatically pulls in the correct tax rate.

  • Property Sale (🏠): This is for conveying land or buildings. The rate is 1.5%. Note: You get an exemption if the value is under ₦10,000,000. Exactly! This saves you a massive headache on smaller transactions.
  • Mortgage (🏦): This covers creating a security interest over assets.
  • Share Capital (📊): This applies when registering new share capital for a company.
  • Loan Capital (💰): This is for formalizing loan agreements.

Step 2: Input the Value and Party

You need the correct financial figure for the transaction.

  1. Transaction Amount (₦): Enter the total value of the agreement. For property, this is the sale price. For a mortgage, this is the loan amount. Enter the number without commas.
  2. Who Pays?: Use the dropdown menu to select the party legally responsible for the duty. For a property sale, this is typically the Transferee/Buyer. This step helps you clarify your responsibility.

Step 3: Calculate and Check for Exemptions

Click the Calculate Stamp Duty 🚀 button.

  • Exemption Notice (✨): If your transaction value is below the statutory threshold (currently ₦10,000,000 for Property/Mortgage), a large Exempt from Stamp Duty notice appears. You owe nothing: time to celebrate a win.
  • Duty Payable (Red Box): If you are not exempt, the main result shows the exact Stamp Duty Payable in Naira. This is the fee you must submit to the relevant tax authority to validate your document.

The detailed breakdown shows the Document Type, Transaction Amount, and the Duty Rate applied, confirming that the calculation is accurate and transparent.
