Grammar & Clarity Check
Check your writing for common errors and clarity issues
Grammar & Clarity Check Guide
The Grammar & Clarity Check tool analyzes your text to find common writing errors, stylistic weaknesses, and clarity issues. It generates a Writing Score based on the issues found, helping you quickly improve your document’s quality.
Tool Functionality
The tool performs several automated checks and categorizes potential issues into three groups. It then calculates a score out of 100, where a lower score indicates more issues found.
Issue Categories
| Category | Icon | Impact on Score (Approx.) | Purpose |
| Error | ❌ | High (e.g., -10 per unique error type) | Identifies definite structural mistakes, such as repeated words or double spaces. |
| Warning | ⚠️ | Medium (e.g., -5 per unique warning type) | Highlights potential grammatical flaws that need review, such as a possible comma splice or missing punctuation. |
| Suggestion | 💡 | Low (e.g., -2 per unique suggestion type) | Points out stylistic weaknesses, like passive voice or excessive use of weak/filler words, to boost clarity. |
Specific Checks Performed
The system uses rules to find common issues, including:
- Double Spaces: Finds two or more spaces between words.
- Repeated Words: Finds words repeated consecutively (e.g., “the the”).
- Missing Punctuation: Looks for sentences running together without proper separation.
- Very Long Sentences: Suggests breaking up sentences that are over a specified length (200 characters).
- Passive Voice Indicators: Flags structures suggesting passive constructions (e.g., “was done,” “were seen”).
- Weak Words: Recommends removing common filler words (e.g., “very,” “really,” “just”).
- Comma Splice: Flags commas used incorrectly to join independent clauses.
